Zuccardi Concreto Malbec 2018, you guessed it, made in concrete. But what does this actually mean? Well instead of using oak or stainless for the fermenting vessel, they have used concrete vats. 50% of the grapes are whole bunched fermented. Native yeast is also used with 20 days maceration. This makes this vintage of Concreto Malbec big and juicy.

Coming off of vineyards that are over 1100m above sea level. The soils are quite rocky but chalky. The main point of this wine is to emphasise fruit. A lot of producers say this, but at Zuccardi their actions speak volumes. Fermented and matured in concrete vats without epoxy means the aromas and flavours from the vineyards are heightened. The method of 100% concrete use is a nod to the past in Argentine wine making, where the winemakers want to show off just how good the grapes they grow are.

Aromas of fresh red and blackberries, plums and cherry. Floral and blossom tones also but underneath a hint of aromatic spice. The palate is super juicy and fresh with such pristine fruit you can almost taste the perfectly ripened grapes. Concentrated and layered throughout, the palate is medium to heavy with grippy tannin. Expect a long scented length too with a spicy kick.

Although this wine is totally worth the cash, we have the Chardonnay from Zuccardi that’s not as harsh on the bank account.
