Léon Verhaeghe from Morsleede in Flanders, left his native country in the early 20th Century to settle in south-western France. The estate is now run by Pascal and Jean-Marc who duly studied winemaking in Burgundy & California, and Bordeaux respectively.
The vines of Château du Cèdre root in two different types of soil: this wine is from vineyards composed of stony clay and limestone which produce wines with fine tannins, whereas the more powerful and dense wines come from soils composed of clay, sand and rich in pebbles.
A classic dark, brooding Malbec, but with a youthfulness to it that makes it endlessly drinkable, especially when plonked next to a plate of cheese and cold cuts.
